  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted Opt for high-quality European-style butter for better richness.
  • 3/4 cup buttermilk
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese Use freshly shredded cheese for best results.
Topping
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon chopped parsley

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 425°F and prepare a baking sheet by lining it with parchment paper.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, garlic powder, sugar, salt, and baking soda until fully combined.
  3. In a separate bowl, mix together the melted butter, buttermilk, and egg until smooth.
  4. Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients and stir gently just until combined.
  5. Fold in the shredded cheddar cheese, ensuring even distribution without overworking the dough.
  6. Scoop the dough into rustic mounds on the prepared baking sheet, spacing them slightly apart.
Baking
  1. Bake for 12 to 15 minutes, or until the tops are golden and the biscuits are cooked through.
Topping
  1. In a small bowl, combine the topping butter, garlic powder, and parsley.
  2. Once baked, brush the warm biscuits generously with the garlic butter topping.
Serving
  1. Serve warm and enjoy with your favorite dishes!

Notes

For a healthier twist, consider swapping half of the all-purpose flour for whole wheat flour, or using low-fat buttermilk.
