Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 9 slices French Bread, cut into 1-inch cubes For a classic flavor, use a day-old loaf.
  • 12 tablespoons salted butter, at room temperature For richness; feel free to use unsalted if you prefer.
  • 1 teaspoon garlic, minced Fresh garlic works best, but you can use garlic powder in a pinch.
  • 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped Feel free to substitute with dried herbs or other fresh herbs like thyme or rosemary.

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). A hot oven ensures your croutons get that perfect crunch.
  2. Melt the butter in a large oven-safe skillet over medium heat. Make sure to keep an eye on the butter; you want it melted, not browned.
  3. Stir in the garlic and cook for about 1 minute, allowing the garlic to infuse the butter with its savory aroma (don’t let it burn!).
  4. Add the parsley and stir to add a fresh note.
  5. Remove from heat, and then add your bread cubes to the skillet.
  6. Toss to coat each cube in the butter and garlic mixture thoroughly.
  7. Place the skillet directly into the oven. If your skillet is full, you may need to bake in batches to avoid overcrowding.
  8. Bake for 15-17 minutes, or until they are crispy and lightly browned. Shake halfway through for even toasting.
  9. Let cool before serving. These croutons are best enjoyed fresh but can be stored for snacking later!

Notes

Store your croutons in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week. Refrigerate for longer storage or freeze for up to three months.
